It is illegal to drink and drive and yet so many do it every day. Not only does alcohol impair our reaction time and thought process, but it also induces poor decision-making and a loss of inhibitions. It would seem that this was the case during a recent overnight crash on a Saturday that had one drunk driver traveling the wrong way down a lane of traffic, causing a serious accident.

According to authorities, the driver of a compact car was traveling southbound in a lane of northbound traffic when it collided head-on with a large SUV. Shortly after 2:30 in the morning, officers arrived at the accident scene to find two extremely damaged vehicles and three seriously injured individuals.

The driver of the compact car and his two passengers, all with life-threatening injuries, were taken to a local hospital to receive medical attention. Unfortunately, one of the passengers later died as a result of their injuries. The driver of the other vehicle, a large SUV, was unharmed but taken into custody under suspicion of drunk driving. And it appears both drivers were intoxicated at the time of the crash.

As much as we want to believe this type of accident does not happen often, it does. Drunk driving is a very serious problem that law enforcement deals with every day. Despite their best efforts to limit the number of drunk drivers on the road, irresponsible individuals still choose to drink and drive. If you or a loved one has been injured by a drunk driver, you may benefit from speaking to an experienced personal injury attorney.
