Real cases where FLG’s work delivered accountability and change that reached beyond the courtroom.
FLG represented the families of four United States Marines killed as a result of a Sempra subsidiary’s negligent failure to safely maintain its electrical equipment. The utility refused to make any settlement offer before trial. FLG won a $55.4 million jury verdict. The brochure notes the utility implemented safety changes during the trial, and there has been no further loss of life from that defect at the Camp Pendleton location. (Reduced and appealed; resolved for a confidential amount.)
James P. Frantz won an $18.5 million verdict against a dietary supplement manufacturer and was asked by Congress to testify as a product liability expert. Per the brochure, within months of his testimony the federal government banned the product nationwide, after numerous injuries had already occurred.
With co-counsel, FLG recovered over $2 billion for victims of the 2007 San Diego County wildfires caused by SDG&E negligence. The brochure credits that litigation with changing SDG&E’s safety practices, and notes SDG&E was the only California public utility that did not cause catastrophic wildfires in the state in 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020.
